Poetry Ghosts

I’m currently doing an extensive project on the modernist poet D.H. Lawrence. He’s fantastic. I feel like I just connect with his poetry, which is such a strange thing considering he wrote a hundered years ago. It’s weird how poetry can surpass time on such a deep level. He was quoted saying something that seems to encompass how I write my poetry, especially the darker things. He said his poetry frightened him, saying that they “had the ghost in them. They seemed to me to come from somewhere, I didn’t quite know where, out of a me whom I didn’t know and didn’t want to know, and say things I would much rather not have said” (from the Norton Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Poetry Volume 1). Such honesty.

  1. He said his poetry frightened him, saying that they “had the ghost in them. They seemed to me to come from somewhere, I didn’t quite know where, out of a me whom I didn’t know and didn’t want to know, and say things I would much rather not have said” THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS I WRITE, VERY AFRAID OF THE PART OF ME IT COMES FROM. GREAT POST!
